Safari too slow? Get the new WebKit if you can’t wait…
I personally do not use Safari much. FireFox is my browser of choice since long time ago on both Windows and Mac, and at times I do like to check out how my sites look in Internet Explorer (I am a web developer after all). However, this may change.
As many of you know, Safari uses Apple’s WebKit for rendering pages and running JavaScript. WebKit gets updated more times than Safari, and the newest development version (although not yet even optimized) seems to run helluva fast.
In my personal tests it did render pages faster than Safari, but if we are to believe Seth Weintraub, who tested this more in depth than I have, WebKit loads pages at twice the speed of Safari. Seth is on a 100Mbit link, but still - twice as fast is impressive.
If you have nothing else to do this weekend - WebKit might be a nice new browser to try; that is, if you like Betas. Next Safari (hopefully in the 10.5.2 software update from Apple), will most likely include this improved WebKit code, so you can always wait
There’s noting like faster browsing…
